I have a tip for you: Lay a brick today.
I’m sure you’ve heard the old phrase: Rome was not built in a day. But have you also heard the follow-on phrase by motivational expert James Clear? “But they were laying bricks every hour.”
It takes time to make something special. When you think about it, you realize just how many things had to get done to build Rome.
This is true of every project, every important goal. Achieving the goal requires completing many, many small steps. One after another.
When you concentrate on how it is you lay bricks and keep laying bricks you change the focus, not to the goal but to the system for getting the steps done.
And isn’t it nice not to have to lose 10 pounds today? Not to have to run the 26 miles just this minute? Instead, today all you have to do is find a way to control what you eat at the next meal or get out of bed to get going on today’s exercise.
One brick, another brick, the bricks add up! What do you want to build? Start by laying a brick today. Keep going!
